3 GENDER EQUALITY AND WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
Gender equality and the economic empowerment of women and girls
remain central to AYT’s mission, aligning with SDG 5 (Gender Equality)
and Aspiration 6 of Agenda 2063 (An Africa whose development is
people-driven, relying on the potential of African people, particularly its
women and youth).
In 2024, AYT implemented key interventions to address gender disparities,
promote women’s leadership, and enhance economic resilience for survivors
of gender-based violence (GBV) and marginalized young women.
These initiatives directly support AYT’s strategic goal of reducing gender disparities
and enhancing women’s leadership and economic resilience.
Key interventions implemented through;

Access to Justice and Security (AJS) Project: Young Urban Women (YUW):
Providing comprehensive support to GBV survivors Empowering young women in informal
through the 21094 SMS platform settlements through advocacy, economic
empowerment and leadership training.
