Our story starts way back in 2005 when Africa Youth Trust (AYT) was founded by a group of young individuals who shared a deep concern for the pervasive issues of youth unemployment and poverty in Kenya. Driven by a shared vision of empowering the youth, they set out on a mission to create positive change and improve the socio-economic landscape for young people across the country. With determination and passion, AYT began its journey as a catalyst for youth-led development, aiming to address the pressing challenges faced by the youth and provide them with opportunities to thrive.
Initially, AYT prioritized providing training and support to young entrepreneurs, assisting them in starting their own businesses and accessing markets. The organization also worked towards promoting gender equality and empowering young women’s participation in society. Subsequently, AYT shifted its focus to peacebuilding initiatives, fostering peace and reconciliation in conflict-affected areas and educating youth about citizenship rights and political engagement. AYT later expanded its efforts to encompass various areas, including HIV/AIDS prevention, environmental sustainability, and regional cooperation within Africa.
Today, AYT is a leading organization that focuses on empowering young people in Kenya and across Africa. With a dedicated team and significant outreach, AYT has made a considerable impact on the lives of numerous young individuals and continues to create positive change every day.
